Poltova, Nov. 2, 1738 [=1737]  Next Sunday I am to march to
winter quarters  where I shall languish for the opening of
the campaign, the very mention of which inspires me with the
following lines:
The arms, where trumpets sound and colours fly,
And drums re-echoing rattle thro' the sky;
None but the bastard soul can hear and stay:
When honour calls and glory leads the way.
